Expertise

Strategic Planning

Facilitated strategy sessions that turn big ideas into a prioritized roadmap with resources and financial consequences attached.

Overview

Strategy is the most abused word in business, so we use it carefully. A ChurchillTerry planning engagement produces a small number of decisions the leadership group has genuinely agreed on, the resources those decisions require, and the financial consequence of getting them right or wrong.

Every strategy is evaluated in three contexts: market, finance and feasibility. An idea that survives all three becomes a plan. One that does not is better killed in a planning session than eighteen months into execution.

Strategy

What we do

Business assessment
An outside read on where the business actually makes money, where it leaks value and what is genuinely defensible.
Facilitated planning
Sessions that get the leadership group to real choices instead of a list of aspirations.
Market context
Sizing the opportunity, understanding the competitive position and testing the demand assumption.
Financial context
Modelling what each option requires in capital, people and time, and what it returns.
Feasibility
An honest assessment of whether this team, this balance sheet and this operation can execute it.
Roadmap and accountability
A prioritised roadmap with owners, milestones and the measures that will show progress or its absence.

Engagement

Typical engagement models

  • Planning cycleAn annual or multi-year planning engagement from assessment through roadmap.
  • Focused assessmentA shorter diagnostic on a specific question — a market, a line of business, a proposed investment.
  • Retained advisoryOngoing involvement through execution, including board or leadership meeting participation.

(Engagement scope, hours, and pricing are defined in the Statement of Work.)

Our approach

Our approach — three focused phases

  1. Phase 1

    Assess

Review performance, economics, market position and capability, and surface the questions that actually matter.

  2. Phase 2

    Decide

Facilitate the choices, test each one against market, finance and feasibility, and agree what the company will not do.

  3. Phase 3

    Execute

Translate decisions into a roadmap with owners and measures, and stay close enough to keep it honest.

Fit

Who this is for

  • Leadership teams busy but unclear on which few things matter most.
  • Companies at an inflection point — a new market, a large investment, a change in ownership.
  • Owners who want an experienced outsider to test their thinking before they commit capital.

FAQ

Here’s the Facts

Do you just facilitate, or do you have a view?
We have a view and we say it. Facilitation without an informed opinion tends to produce consensus around the comfortable option.
Do you help implement?
Yes. We can advise and plan, and we can implement and execute. Many engagements continue through execution.
How long does a planning engagement take?
A focused assessment can run a few weeks. A full cycle with the leadership group usually spans a couple of months around their calendar.
